Which of the following sexually transmitted infections would you consider to be the “worst”: syphilis, gonorrhea, or chlamydia?  Why? Include clinical manifestations, complications, and prognosis in your answer. Would your choice be different for men vs women? Why?

Syphilis is considered to be a worst infection.

Clinical manifestations

  • Primary: single firm painless non itchy skin ulceration
  • Secondary:non itchy rash on trunk, palm and soles,wart formation,maculopapular rash, fever,sore throat,malaise, hair loss, headache. Rare symptoms are liver inflamation, kidney disease, peritonitis,optic nerve damage
  • Latent: early stage same symptoms like primary and secondary,late stage no symptoms
  • Tertiary: neurosyphilis, cardiovascular syphilis, meningitis, general paresis.

Complications:

It is a imitator disease .

Brain damage

Heart disease

Blindness

Paralysis

Stroke

Prognosis:

Treatment is available if diagnosed and provided at the right time with antibiotics.But the damage already caused is irreversible. Prognosis is good in primary and secondary stage but poor in tertiary stage.
