This synergy model is applicable to all levels of nursing from the primary caregiver to the OT rooms. The indicators of a good synergy model are : patient satisfaction, lower rate of adverse incidents, complications and mortality rates with decreased length of hospital stay. There is six basic rule to sustain energy as follows
Clear purpose: The team members must be clear and knowledgeable about their goals, purpose, and objectives of the team.
Actively Listen: the team member should focus on each individual of what is being absorbed to the speaker and her attentive towards the listener.
Maintain Honesty: The team member should provide feedback to the speaker as her views are correct or not.
Demonstrate compassion: The team member should listen to the other's member viewpoint in a caring manner.
Resolution of conflicts: The team member must agree or disagree with the issue and comes towards a common understanding and acceptance.
Be Flexible: The team members must be flexible in the work towards the goals and objectives.
All nurses on a team are expected to work together along with patient and synergize their actions towards one goal - patient care only. The synergy model is a patient care model basically and provides a platform for interrelationship between nurses and their team to provide effective and quality patient care. This will provide a clarity on patients needs and care required. The team consists of complex members. The Team leader should manage when the conflicts arise. The team member should have different skills, backgrounds, who work together under a team leader. The team should work towards the mission and goals of an organization. The value of a team is based on the goal settings, the relationship among the members, the collaboration of work, and allocation of work within the team members. The nurse managers should trust on the synergy and should create a comfortable environment for the nurses. The patient and their families will also be on the same page as the caregivers. The attitude of the patient influences the nurses to provide competent patient care. In that way a synergy of patient needs against nurse's competency is maintained. The synergy model includes 2 key features: patient characteristics and nurses competencies. The competencies of nurses depend on various factors:
1. clinical judgement: good thinking abilities with ability to grasp critical situations and respond accordingly. A properly experienced nurse with good education following evidence based practise is a good example of this.
2. patient advocacy: advocating on behalf of patients by understanding their needs.
3. Caring practises,
4. Collaboration: of all depts to work together with patient. Family members can also be taken into confidence.
5. Response to diversity: respecting the patients beliefs and value system.
6. Clinical inquiry and facilating learning.
Steps to facilitate Team building:
Assess the functioning of the team.
Identify the problem of team dysfunction.
Analyse the team strength and weakness.
Develop the strategies and action plan for the team.
Implement the action plan.
Evaluate the team building.
It is necessary that all members should value the purpose of the project because the project team is formed for one purpose. The team members from various disciplines should have the necessary expertise needed for the task within the time limit.
