Explain tasks LPN/LVNs could delegate to a UAP or aide. How would you as a Supervisor in a longterm care facility respond to another LPN/LVN whom is an employee that just administered an incorrect dosage of medication to a patient.
UAP or aide are Nursing Assistants .There tasks or duties are to provide basic nursing care, assist the patient in doing there activity of daily living like taking vital signs, bathing ,mouthcare, helping them in eating ,serving food, positioning the patient, changing the bed linens, providing perineal care, assessing for bed sores and dressing, providing bedpans, transferring patient from bed to wheel chair/trolley vice-versa etc.
As a supervisor ,if a LPN/LVN administers a incorrect dosage of medication -:
First of all the doctor is informed about the dosage error, patients vitals are assessed so that actions can be taken to prevent the patient from deteroirating.
The nurse has to fill the incident report .So that she does not repeat this in future and for the medical records section to have track of the staff performance ,and also to the nursing care quality and training department to have a look on the issues where the staff are lacking in there performance.
The nurse will be provided training on how to administer medications and will be checked by senior nurse before administering the medications.
