ANSWER :
Mr Ally's diagnosis is POSTERIOR VITREOUS DETACHMENT. This is caused by changes in the vitreous gel. It does not cause pain and sight loss. It may cause small dark spots and flashing light.
Reasons :
Eye is filled with a clear gel called vitreous. The vitreous helps to keep eye's shape. Over age, it is common for the vitreous to become more watery and less like a gel. When the vitreous gels too soft and loses its shape, it can come away from the retina and shrinks towards the centre of the eye. As the vitreous shrinks and sags, it clumps and gets stringy. The debris blocks some of the lights passing through the eye, casting tiny shadows on the retina that are seen as floaters.
Treatment :
There is no any medical treatment for posterior vitreous detachment and there is no evidence that eye exercise, diet changes or vitamins can help. The floaters or flashes usually get better within 3 months and doctor will recommend another detailed eye test after confirm the diagnosis. If the condition is not subsiding after 3 months doctor may recommend laser to reduce the floaters or have surgery to take out the vitreous gel and clear the floaters.
