If computer and information science are foundational to nursing informatics, should computer and information literacy be a requirement in all nursing programs at all levels? Why or why not?
Nowadays computers have become one of the major parts of the working system in all fields of organisation. So, it is also used in the healthcare organisation. Although nurses do not need a high degree of computer expertise, their performance will be much more efficient if they have good computer skills. Many data are being saved in the computer such as patients information, history, balance sheet etc. At present, computer is need of this era, many of our works gets easier thorugh the computer.
Its a good platform to keep all the records of the patients. Records are stored on electronic files and travel with patients from provider to provider. Without adequate training, the nurse won’t be able to access the reports and test results patients have already had. Once nurses start caring for patients, they need to be able to record their progress, their vitals and other steps taken in the course of care. Many hospitals, nursing homes and clinics provide laptops and electronic nurses’ stations so can easily record activities as they occur. They don’t even have to transfer information back at a stationary desktop computer.
So, computer education is need of of the present scenario.
