Topic: Plant Nutrient Acquisition
What is the difference between macronutrients and micronutrients? Include some examples for each.
What living soil organisms can plant roots recruit to assist in nutrient acquisition? What nutrients to they help the plant get?
Describe the role of ionic charges in nutrient availability.
Ans) Nutrients which are required in small quantities by our body are called Micronutrients.
For example : Minerals and vitamins.
Nutrients which are required in large quantities by our body are called Macronutrients.
For example : Proteins , fats and carbohydrates.
Plants roots require living organisms like fungi and bacteria which helps the plants to acquire the nutrients because nutrients such as Nitrogen , Sulphur and phosphorus are present in inorganic form inside the soil. So , the microbes helps the plants to acquire its organic form by breaking down the nutrients.
Ion exchange refers to the exchange of ions which is positively charge (cation) which is present in water surrounding the particles in soil from the other ion which is positively charged (cation) trapped in the surface that is clayey.
A soil is less fertile if the amount of Cation Exchange Capacity is low as the soil is not able to persist numerous nutrients , as a result of which the soil is less clayey.
