  1. If a diverse gut microbiome is important for optimal health, what steps can you think of to protect and/or reestablish gut flora following an illness like food poisoning?

Gut Flora or intestinal Flora - bacteria inside the intestines, help to digest food . To re-establish gut Flora after illness one should take the following steps -

1. Eating nutrient foods , having healthy diet, and adding probiotic foods into (like plain yogurt , pickled , veggies ,etc. )

2. Rest well and sleep enough every night.

3. Spend quality time with friends and family

4. Avoid antibiotics as antibiotics kills the good gut bacteria, and also cause problem like anxiety , depression and reflux. Although after illness some antibiotics are required but they should be supplements with probiotic also.

5. Eliminate artificial sweeteners as it alter the gut bacteria that cause glucose intolerance.

6. Exercise regularly which promote biodiversity of gut Flora and helps in recovering from illness.

7 support digestion by avoiding antacids, supplementing with a digestive enzymes may help in digesting food better and get rid of illness.
