List the differences between the neurological systems of an infant, toddler, school-age child and teenager/young adult. Explain the potential impact of these differences on neurological injury
Infant- devvelopment of nervous systembegins in fetal life and contioues throught infancy reflexes appears during newborn and infancy, reflexes are indicators of neurological function and development abscent or abnormal reflexes indicates neurological dysfunction. Newborns normally exhibit many reflexes such as,blink reflex, rooting reflex, sucking reflex ,swallowing reflex etc
Toddler-brain growth continnues, the brain size becomes three quantities of adult size by the age of 3 years It increases the toddlers intelllectual and cognitive abilities.
School age- brain development of children at this stage accelerates as they recieve opportunities at school to learn new mental skills and concepts. they become more curious about the world around them become more interested in exploring it and begin to solve problem on their own.
Teenager- fully understand abstract concepts and be aware of consequences and personal limitations. identify career goals and prepare to achhive them. secure their autonomy and build and test their decision making skills, develop new skills hobbies and adult interests.
Impacts of neurologic injuries may affect your brain cells temporarily, more serious traumatic brain injury can result in bruising, torn tissues, bleeding and other physical damage to the brain. these injuries can result in long term complications or death.
