BREAST DISEASES
Breast diseases make a number of conditions.
most common symptoms:
Breast pain.
Breast mass.
Nipple discharge.
Types:
Breast tumors.
Fibrocystic breast diseases.
Infections and inflammation.
Other breast conditions.
Congenital breast diseases.
Breast tumors: A breast tumor is an abnormal mass of tissue in the breast as a result of neoplasia.
A breast neoplasm may be benign,as in fibroadenoma, or malignant,in which it is termed as breast cancer.
Either case commonly present as a breast lump.
Phyllodes tumor is a fibroepithelial tumor which can either benign, borderline or malignant.
Breast cancer:
Breast Cancer is the cancer of breast tissues, most commonly arising from the milk ducts.
Worldwide, breast cancer is the leading type of cancer in women accounting 25%of all cases.
Signs of breast cancer may include lumps in the breast, a change in breast shape, dumpling of the skin, fluid comming from the nipple, red or scaly patches on skin.
Fibrocystic breast diseases:
Also called as fibrocystic breast change, chronic cystic mastitis, diffuse cystic mastopathy.
Non-cancerous change that give breast a lumpy or rope like texture.
The condition is likely to be due to hormone changes during the menstrual cycle that affect the breast tissue.
Women experience breast pain that varies through out the menstrual cycle.
Fibrocystic breast diseases didn't increase the risk of cancer.
Infections and inflammation
These may be caused by trauma, secretory stasis,milk engorgement,hormonal stimulation, infections or auto immune reaction.
Bacterial mastitis : Bacterial mastitis is a infection of the breast tissue that occurs most commonly during breastfeeding.
Mastitis from milk engorgement or secretory stasis.
Chronic subareolar abscess.
Tuberculosis of the breast.
Syphilis of the breast.
Retromammary abscess.
Duct ectasia syndrome.
Other breast conditions:
These include : Paget disease of breast : it is a rare condition associated with breast cancer.
Nipple discharge : discharge from the nipple occurs in wide variety of conditions including abscess, birth control pills, breast cancer etc.
Galactorrhea : it is a milky nipple discharge unrelated to the normal milk production of breast feeding.
Breast cyst : A fluid filled sac in the breast that is usually non-cancerous.
Mastalgia : mastalgia is the breast pain. There are 2 main types of mastalgia.
Cystic breast pain.
Pain related to the menstrual period.
Galactocoele : it is a retention cyst containing milk or milky substance that is usually located in the mammary gland.
Congenital breast diseases
Accessory breast : it is a condition having an extra breast.
Amastia :Amastia refers to rare clinical anomoly in which both breast tissue and nipples are absent.
Micromastia : It Is a medical term describing postpubertal under development of of a women's breast tissues.
Supernumerary nipple : it is birth defect which consists of an extra nipple in addition to the two nipples that normally appear on the chest.
