Expert Solution

The Wisconsin idea was developed by the University of Wisconsin System in the state of Wisconcin in the USA. The idea hols that holds that university research should be applied to solve problems and improve health, quality of life, the environment, and agriculture.

It also means having faith in the application of intelligence and reason to the problems of society. It teaches us that the government does not work aimlessly, but it works for the people using all the knowledge and understanding that it has.

Using this idea, the knowledge and expertise imparted by the university was used to create legislations for the citizens in the areas of utilities, taxes and so on. The goal was to make the influence of university reach every home of the state. Attempts were made afterwards to remove this idea but it was restored.

The idea also included getting rid of monopolies, trusts, high cost of living and such factors which they saw as hurdles in the progess of human welfare. Progressive system of taxation was also introduced. In this system, the tax rate increases with the increase in the level of income. Laws were passed prohibiting pollution and brutality by police.

Laws were also introduced for workers which allowed them to claim compensation in case of facing injuries in the course of employment.

The Wisconsin idea was a major movement in developing what is known as the 'progressive era' in the history of US.
