This is for a safety engineering class and the textbook used is Industrial Safety and Health Management by Asfahl & Rieske (7th Edition) but I use the 6th edition and it's the same.
What type of hazard analysis techniques are used for the following project stages? Give two examples for each.
1.) Research and Development
2.) Design
3.) Operation
There are different types of hazard analysis techniques used for a project at different stages.
1. RESERCH AND DEVELOPMENT-
(a) Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PreHA): This techniques developed from technique the U.S. Military Standard System Safety Program Requirements. The Preliminary Hazard Analysis is often used at the initial stage of a project development. A Preliminary Hazard Analysis is generally applied during the reserch and developments of project studied and it is very useful in making decision about the site selection.
(b) Checklist (traditional): A detailed list of all procedures which need to perform during the operation. this checklist is prepared by the experienced persons.
2,. Design
(A) Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PreHA): This hazard analyisis method is applied in early stage of process when process in developing stage. it is applied during the conceptual design of a process.
(B)Event Tree Analysis (ETA): It is a logic model, which portrays the combination of events and circumstances of a incident in sequence. it calculates the composite risk for thge process from intialialization.
3. operation
(A) Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) Analysis: in this method operating problems are identified using a number guide words to know about process deviations. This method is applicable for any type of flow process.
(B) Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA): This is systematic, tabular method for the evaluation and documentaion of any type of component failure. This method is applicable to electrical , mecjhnical and any type of flow process. it is a very high reliable method.
