what is the major function of the skin an d how is it accomplished?
The major function of the skin includes Protection of the human body, Sensation and Temperature regulation.
Protection: The skin forms the cover around the internal tissues and organ to protect them from mechanical injury by bumps and knocks. The cornified epidermis stops damage by friction.
Sensation: The skin has abundant receptors which bare sensitive to a variety of stimuli like for instance, heat, pain, cold, pressure etc.
Temperature regulation: As we know that normal body temperature of a man is 98.6' F THAT IS 37' C. This temperature is maintained at all the times in all seasons. The skin, being in contact with the surrounding air, gives up heat. Which the temperature of the air rises and during muscular work the skin capillaries dilate and receive more blood resulting in increased heat loss. When the temperature of the surrounding air falls, skin vessels constrict and heat loss is reduced. The sweat cools and the skin if it gets overheated etc
