Give some examples of how the United States asserted its nationalism in foreign affairs between 1815 and 1825. What did these examples suggest about long-term goals for the US in world affairs?
Era of good feeling
The Era of Good Feeling (1815-1825) started in America very after
the War of 1812. The era made the nationalism of the country better
and strong. The era was affected in foreign affairs by the tariffs
on the manufacturers for a protective trade and industrial
revolution and improvements in transportation. Increasing the price
of imported goods by imposing tariff, the nation tried to encourage
the consumption of domestic goods and stimulate the growth of
economy by helping the domestic producers to produce and supply
more. The main imposition that changes the foreign affairs was to
restrict or reduce the level of imports.
The imposition of tariffs and development of the industry made a
long term effect in country’s economy. The nation grew to a strong
economy in production and consumption after the era. Nationalism
helped the people to create an idea of our nation and feel
different from the British crown that lasted long. The overall
improvements in the infrastructural facilities and industrial
structure helped the nation to grow with the nationalism. The
change in the political behaviour and new policies helped the
nation to attain an influence in the international affairs in the
long run through the economical stability attained from the
period.
