The goal of protecting patient information privacy often conflicts with the goal of providing the improved healthcare that EMRs can support. Provisions in HIPAA provide some confidentiality protection, but not enough. Potential for a major privacy breach lies in the system of primary or secondary users.

What privacy and security issues are hindering the adoption of EMR systems? In your opinion, which of these issues is the most important to address first?

   Health care tools changed to coordinate better care for patients..EHR provides good oppurtunity for patients to receive coordinated care and for providers to easy access to their health information..but still EHR having some questions and concerns..(HIPAA)Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act provides privacy and security rules which cover entities covered under HIPAA health information..EHRs useful for providers to use information more effectively to improve the quality and efficiency of care..
   Under the privacy rule patient having rights to see or get a copy of thier medical record..They can get corrected if there is any mistake..They can get a notice how their health information can be used or shared,when and how health care provider to be contacted..even they can make complaints..as per HIPAA security rule providers need some physical,administrative and technical safeguards to protect the information..
safety measures to be followed by EHR system include:
      --Access controls lile passwords and PIN number protection
      --Encrypting it means except the authorized individual decrypt no one can read or understood the inforamtion..
      --Audit trail can access the information and what change made and when..
Federal law requires doctors,hospitals and health care providers to notify the patient as a breach of health information..this helps patient to know if something went wrong..
The HHS office for civil rights(OCR) works help to make secure the patient health information kept private and secured by health care professionals..covered entities must be as a safeguard to protect patients health information and other disclose the health information improperly..
Covered entities include insurance companies,HMOs,company health plans,governement programs(medicare and medicaid)..Health care clearing houses,business associates,lawyers,accountants and IT specialists..EHR progress obstruct due to lack of public support related to privacy concerns..Lack of privacy protection also one reason for EHR progress to hinder..Incorporating EHRs into our health care system is important.Obama administration introduced some health plans that must be more protection to be reality..EHR security and privacy is a growing concern by strict secure networks and patient authentrication..
