The goal of protecting patient information privacy often conflicts with the goal of providing the improved healthcare that EMRs can support. Provisions in HIPAA provide some confidentiality protection, but not enough. Potential for a major privacy breach lies in the system of primary or secondary users.

health information can be used or shared, when and how health care
provider to be contacted..even they can make complaints..as per
HIPAA security rule providers need some physical, administrative and
technical safeguards to protect the information..
safety measures to be followed by EHR system include:
--Access controls lile passwords and PIN
number protection
--Encrypting it means except the
authorized individual decrypt no one can read or understood the
inforamtion..
--Audit trail can access the information
and what change made and when..
Federal law requires doctors, hospitals and health care providers to
notify the patient as a breach of health information..this helps
patient to know if something went wrong..
The HHS office for civil rights(OCR) works help to
make secure the patient health information kept private and secured
by health care professionals..covered entities must be as a
safeguard to protect patients health information and other disclose
the health information improperly..
Covered entities include insurance
companies,HMOs,company health plans,governement programs(medicare
and medicaid)..Health care clearing houses,business
associates,lawyers,accountants and IT specialists..EHR progress
obstruct due to lack of public support related to
privacy concerns..Lack of privacy protection also
one reason for EHR progress to hinder..Incorporating EHRs into our
health care system is important.Obama administration introduced
some health plans that must be more protection to be reality..EHR
security and privacy is a growing concern by strict secure networks
and patient authentrication..
