Watch The movie "Escape Fire" then answer the following questions. If you incorporate any of the readings from this week, or any other sources, make sure you cite them using APA format. 1) What are some of the Problem’s that arise for both patients and Doctors when Medical care is highly specialized? 2) Why is healthcare such a politically charged issue? It there any hope that both sides of the aisle can come together to work for change? 3) Dr. Steven Nissen says, " When Medicine became a business we lost our Moral Compass" Explain, Discuss, Debate.
1.) The documentary spokes about the healthcare system of the U.S. Due to an increased number of specialized, the role of General practitioners were denied. The doctor who is doing a special procedure has been paid more than the general practitioner who talks with the patient at the same time. So the doctors are focused on the number of patients rather than spending enough time with each patient to share their feelings and clear doubts. The patient troubled in a way because the primary care physician is the one who taught about the healthier lifestyles and prevention of disease management but he is of less importance nowadays. So the American healthcare system goes on the track of disease management instead of health management.
2.) The main reasons for the healthcare issues are insurance and pharmaceutical companies. People believe that too many drugs will solve the health problem. The healthcare system pushes doctors on more delivery of care. It focuses only on quantity, not on quality. Further, the insurance is not paying much for the healthier. People think that new drug and expensive procedure will be more powerful. It is necessary to change our healthcare system which focuses on prevention and healthier lifestyle with high quality and low cost.
3.) In the documentary, Dr. Steven Nissan says, "When medicine became a business, we lost our moral compass". What he says is exactly true. This healthcare system is selling medicine because the physicians are pushed to prescribe drugs by the pharmaceutical companies. The hospitals are forced to perform procedures and not on prevention. The healthcare system was focusing on profit rather than making a healthier Nation.
