A patient has xxx NRBCs per 100 leukocytes. In addition to increased polychromasia on the peripheral smear, what other TWO findings may be present on the CBC? Explain why.
Polychromasia is the presence of immature red blood cells in the bloodstream due to damage of bone marrow
The two common count to be taken into consideration
1. Reticulocytes count - to detect any bone marrow disease and stress
If low it is bone marrow stress
If high it is mostly linked with hemolysis
2. Erythroblasts count
Presence of erythroblasts leaves anemia
If large number is present it is a characteristics finding of hemolytic disease.
