a. Treating of cases : In the present day scenario treating these cases involve different steps and the treatment varies due to developing trend about the CORONA virus epidemiology -

  • First isolate the patient.
  • Treatment of symptoms like fever , dyspnoea , cough , headache , breathlessness, pneumonia etc .
  • Iv fluids to improve health and prevent loss of salts and improve immunity.
  • O2 inhalation to maintain OXYGEN saturation.
  • If breathlessness is severe , ventilate the patient .
  • Antiviral medications like REMDESIVIR are used in treatment . But this drug is not officially approved for corona virus . It is in clinical trials .

b. Preventing further spreading -

  • Isolate the patient and his contacts and quarantine them .
  • Wear face mask as the virus spreads mainly by droplets.
  • Educate the public about the mode of spread of virus and be cautious about the disease .
  • Avoid overcrowding of the public.
  • To boost the immunity of the public .
  • Isolate the public or area and conduct mass checkup campaigns to find out the diseased persons.
  • Control the movement of people till the outbreak comes under control.
  • Proper sanitation and frequent hand wash practices to keep the disease away.
  • Follow social distancing.

c. MONITORING THE EFFECTS OF CONTROL MEASURES -

  • Surveillance measures.
  • Monitoring case fatality rate.
  • Monitoring case mortality rate.
  • Recovery rate.
  • Incidence rate .
  • Prevalence rate.

If there is a good control , recovery rate will increase and all the other rates will decrease which is a good indicator of effective control measures.
