Concepts and reason
The conifers, hardwoods, deciduous, and evergreens are the types of trees that are classified on the basis of their characteristic differences.
Fundamentals
The conifers are cone-bearing seed plants like cedars, cypresses, pines, spruces etc. Mostly they are evergreens; therefore, their leaves are long, thin, and have a needle-like shape.
The hardwoods are mostly deciduous like elm and maple but they also include broad leaf evergreens like mango. Unlike conifers, hardwoods basically have broad leaves. Hardwoods are produced by angiosperm trees that reproduce through flowers.
Deciduous means “falling off at maturity”. This term suggests that such trees lose their leaves seasonally. This process is called “abscission”. The examples of such trees are elm, maple, forsythia etc.
Evergreen plants include both trees and shrubs that has leaves throughout the year. Most of these include conifers like pines, cedars, hemlock but they also include some hardwood tropical trees like mango.
