Describe the eight components of a coordinated
school health program.
#. Coordinated School Health Program :-
An organized set of policies, procedures, and activities designed to protect, promote, and improve the health and well-being of students and staff, thus improving a students ability to learn.
Eight components :-
#1. Comprehensive School Health Education
The part of the coordinated school health program that includes the DEVELOPMENT, DELIVERY and EVALUATION of planned, sequential and developmentally appropriate instruction, learning experiences, and other activities designed to PROTECT, PROMOTE and ENHANCE the health literacy, attitudes, skills and well-being of students pre-k through grade 12.
#2. Health Services
Services provided for students to appraise, protect, and promote health. (Side-note): An example: Nurse; Assess the students, yearly check-ups of Sclerosis(back condition), eye-exam. Nurse contains resources (medication, first-aid kit). First time signs of things to look for or be aware of get notice or students learn what is normal.
#3. Healthy School Environment
Two components: 1) Safe Climate: The environment students have to work in. Does the student feel safe in their classroom and/or in school in general. 2)Physical Environment: Desk, Lights, Bulletin Board, Smart Board, Thermostat. (Side-note): There are more mental and emotional state. (safe climate) - That you don't allow the pushes, words, etc.
#4. Physical Education
Planned, Sequential instruction that promotes LIFELONG PHYSICAL ACTIVITY.
#5. School Nutrition Services
Integration of nutritious, affordable, and appealing meals.: Ex. Dietitian come in to talk to students.
#6. Counseling, Social Work and Psychological Services
Services provided to improve students mental, emotional, and social health. (Side-note): Help student workout through emotional situations and/or problems phasing. Finding people that can help.
#7. Health Promotion for Staff
Opportunities for school staff to improve their health status through activities such as health assessments, health education and health - related fitness activities. (side-note): It's a variety of things that involve the entire school, including staff & students.
#8. Family/Community Involvement:
An integrated school, parent, and community approach for enhancing the health and well-being of student. (side-note): Figure out a way family/community to get involved.
