Conservationist Aldo Leopold was a leading advocate for the preservation of ecosystems. In his "The Land Ethic," Leopold presented his view, "A thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it tends otherwise." Current challenges to ecosystem stability and the resulting decline of biodiversity include habitat destruction, invasive species, pollution, population, and overexploitation. These challenges have resulted in the decline of biodiversity worldwide. Preserving global biodiversity is a priority in strategic conservation plans that are designed to engage public policy and concerns affecting local, regional and global scales of communities, ecosystems and cultures. Based on what you have read; what actions do you believe should be undertaken to help preserve biodiversity?

Because of a government program, no more than 200 acres of soybeans may be planted. During the planting season, 1,200 hours of planting time will be available. Each acre of soybeans requires 2 hours of planting and each acre of corn requires 6 hours of planting. In addition, Leopold Farms has...

Suppose two landowners have land that can be set aside for habitat preservation purposes, although at a cost. Farm 1’s marginal costs from setting aside habitat is MC1 = 2q1, where q1 is the units of land set aside. Farm 2’s marginal costs from setting aside habitat is MC2 = q2, where q2 is the units of land set aside. For parts a, b, and c, below, please assume that the government wants to preserve 1200 units of land from...
