  1. A technologist performed an antibody screen on a preoperative patient sample using a low-ionic-strength reagent as the antibody potentiator. The manufacturer’s instructions indicated a maximum incubation time of 30 minutes for the procedure. The technologist got distracted because of a heavy workload and an emergency trauma patient. Consequently, the antibody screen in progress remained in the 37°C incubator for 1 hour. The technologist completed the antibody screen procedure. The technologist interpreted the patient’s antibody screen as negative.
    1. What implications can this extended incubation have on the antibody screen results?
    1. What is the corrective action?

Solutions

Expert Solution

(a)   On increasing the the incubation time produces nanoparticles with different sizes and shapes. with also increase in the amount of nanoparticles . THE nanoparticles could be prepared after an incubation of 30 minutes in a antibody cantaing sample. if the incubation time further increased more than the1 hour then larged sized nonoparticles were synthesized due to clump formation or the segregation of smaller sized nanoparticles . As the incubation time progress , there was a sharp decrease in bacterial population growth . and thus the report or result shows negative.

(b) For the corrective action , A combination of broth and solid media should be included for inoculation . broth medium is essential for the recovery of bacteria in short an incubation time as possible .
