The force of the contraction of the muscle or strength of the muscle contraction is achieved by the motor summation or by wave summation.
The stimulation of a single motor unit of muscle produces a weak force of contraction while stimulation of a number of motor unit produce a large force of contraction.
Thus the force of the contraction of the muscle varies with the number of the motor units get stimulated.
When the frequency of the contraction increases causes a wave of summation, thus producing increased strength of contraction.
The motor unit of a muscle consists of motor neurons and the muscle fiber which is innervated.
Largest motor unit is the one whose axon supply many muscle fibres, which is mainly seen in the limbs and postural muscles.
While the smallest motor unit as a limited number of the muscle fibers which it innervates.
Thus the nervous system plays a major role in the force of muscle contraction.
