Hi Answer:
Q. What role does Rubisco play in enhancing or inhibiting photosynthesis?
Answer: Rubisco is an abbreviated name of the Ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase. It is known as one of the enzymes which is involved in the major step of carbon fixation where atmospheric carbon dioxide is converted into energy-rich molecules (sugar/glucose) by the photosynthetic organisms/ plants. Rubisco catalyzes the carboxylation of RuBP (ribulose -1,5-bisphosphate). Rubisco is most abundant enzyme found on earth. It enhances the photosynthesis and makes the plant cell sure they will get glucose to perform vital tasks.
Q. What are some ways to manipulate the C3 cycle to improve photosynthesis?
Answer: These are the following ways to improve the photosynthesis by manipulating the C3 cycle:
1. We can improve the Rubisco kinetic properties. So when the Rubisco kinetics is improved then more and more glucose is produced by the reaction which is catalyzed by the enzyme Rubisco.
2.Suppression of photorespiration because it hinders the efficiency of photosynthesis because it uses the organic material from the C3 cycle and releases CO2. In short, we can say that introduction of the C4 cycle in C3 plants.
3. By increasing the increased activity of sedoheptulose bisphosphatase we can enhance the productivity of C3 plants.
