Few findings of researchers, suggest that broader scope of practice for NPs and PAs has little effect on the quality of care delivered, increases access to health care, and also potentially reduces the cost of providing health care to patients. Do you think, broadening the scope of practice of nonphysician healthcare providers and reducing the monopoly power of physicians in the healthcare market is very likely to improve consumer welfare?
Yes. Broadening the scope of practice of nonphysician health care providers will definitely improve the consumer welfare. As per the research studies, NPs are expanding the access to care, improve the rural care, reduce the healthcare costs and improve the patient health outcome. Also increasing the demand for physicians can be compensated by NPs and PAs scope of practice. They provide a safe, effective, patient-centered care. The advanced education, certified programs, doctorate's degree helps them to diagnose, manage, and treat the patient's condition. The independent scope of practice of NPs increases the access to primary care and reduces the ER admissions. It also increases the growth and career of nurses. It reduces the total cost for the consumers. The skills and knowledge of decision making, continuous care, following of guidelines, a collaborative approach increases overall health care and quality improvement.
