Ans:-
The video talks about the sustainability and how businesses should pay attention to it and then goes on to discuss the biggest drivers of change: sustainability, which is ESG (environment, social issues and governance)
And the major role in bringing this change has to be played by long term investors (institutional investors). We are growing and ageing population, consuming natural resources faster. So, it is our liability to take care of our surroundings and that should be replicated in the way we do business.
The main idea that I liked from the video was “how a business could add on the environment through ESG without losing financially”.
In ESG, Environment talks about energy consumption, water usage, waste; Social talks about human capital, employee engagement, innovation, labor and human rights and Governance talks about oversight of company by board and investors. Almost 90% of global CEOs see sustainability as their future of business, as a success measure. Many examples like Pentair have reinvested their proceeds seeing the sustainability, Pentair reinvested in water and has seen a huge success.
The companies employing ESG performs as good as other companies as the data suggests of companies’ performance. Hesta, an Australian company has set up 22 billion dollar in ESG funds. Apart from that, Long term value creation requires three types of capital: financial, human and physical. And that again synchronizes with ESG. So, ESG is the way the businesses should be done in the future.
Hope it helps!
