Create a scenario for tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and use the HIT or SOAP process to assess the injury.
***Scenario for tennis elbow.***
MR -X 49yrs old men came to doctor with complaints of pain on the outside of the right elbow with refferal to forearm. It aches most of the time and sharp with use.no numbness .no heat,cold mottling of skin.no neck or thoracic pain reported.He is a painter for 12years.he had this pain since one month but it worsen after play cricket .pain sharps at elbow flexon .pain reduce when at rest but not for too long.He feels stiffness in the morning. Ache in the evening depends on the activity. No previous treatment taken.No history of diabetes ,hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis. Vital signs are with in normal limits.He having poor posture.extended cervical spine( neck).Right forearm /elbow looks wasted in comparison to left .
Right elbow assessment
Moving the elbow itself is little stiffness. Wrist extension is cause pain .flexon of wrist feels a pull in the forearm. Wrist grip ,hand and thumb extension all immediately painful in the outside of elbow. Old tear in tendon on outside of elbow with extensive scarred/degenerative tissue.
From the assessment diagnosed as lateral epicondylitis.And planed for physiotherapy for stiffness,mobilization of nerve tissue,exercises for loading of muscle and tendon,taught about self neck mobilization and icing elbow.provided elbow strap .planed for steroid injection if not relieving pain after one week .
