A 65 Y/O woman was recently diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. She is sedentary, has a body mass greater than 30, and has abdominal obesity. List three issues you would prepare to teach the patient about her condition. Explain what you would teach and the rationale behind such interventions.
The three aspects are.
1.Eat a healthy Diet:
Lifestyle change and weight loss are considered the most important initial steps in treating obesity and high BMI related to metabolic syndrome.
Eating a healthy diet can Improve cholesterol, insulin resistance and blood pressure,
Can select some special meal plan including low saturated fat,transfat and cholesterol
Eating plenty of vegetables, fruits,lean protein and whole grains
2.Do some exercises:-
As the patient is already sedentary and with high BMI, exercise has its on important.
Exercise is a great idea to loose over weight, even if she don't loose a single kg weight, exercise can lower blood pressure,improve cholesterol level and improve insulin resistance.
And she has abdominal obesity too she should find appreciate method of exercise to perform accordingly
Try to atleast 30 minutes of physical activity most days.
3.Lose some weight:-
Weight loss often a by-product of exercise amd eating well
As the patient is obese, weight loss can improve the symptoms of metabolic syndrome as well
If she don't make life style changes to control the weight,she will develop insulin resistance,which can cause high blood eventually insulin resistance can lead to type 2 diabetes.
