I hope you will rate my answer positively--
Ordinary care is used when benefits outweigh the burdens to the patient and family. It is morally obligatory and have reasonable hope of success to improve a seriously ill person's condition. It is proportionate in nature.
Example- An infant is born with Down's syndrome have intestinal defect and not able to retain food in body and if untreated than infant will die but parents refuse surgery and state that it is meaningless to treat.
Extraordinary care is used when burdens outweigh the benefits to patient and family. It is morally optional and have little hope of success to improve health. It is disproportionate in nature.
Example- An 89 year old female patient is suffering from primary intestinal cancer, and also have history of kidney failure and congestive heart failure. Surgery can be done for cancer but doctor decide not to do surgery, due to advanced age and have heart and kidney failure so, it become high risk to life.
Thankyou.
