Last weekend I tried to water ski for the first time
in my life. I ended up with a sprained lower back? What organ
systems have suffered damage? [with citations ]
A patient comes into the hospital complaining of
severe pain in the right side of her abdomen. A nurse palpates her
right region and notes the location of the pain on the chart as
being the RLQ. What possible organs could be the source of
the pain? [with citation]
You are told to dissect a pig into two equal left and
right halves. What plane would your incision be in? [with
citations ]
A construction worker fell off a building and landed
on a vertical steel rod. The rod was said to have ruptured his left
pleural membrane. The man is also complaining of congestion in
his chest. What organs are immediately affected by this rupture?
What do you expect would draining into his thoracic cavity,
what term describes this condition?[ with citations ]
* Lumbar or lower back muscle strains and sprains are the most common causes of low back bone.
So, the lumbar muscles and the ligaments holding the bones of the lumbar region of the vertebral column have been overstrained.
* RLQ or Right Lower Quadrant is the lower right quarter of the abdomen. The appendix, right ureter, part of the colon, lower portion of the right kidney, right ovary and right fallopian tube are placed in this quadrant. So, the source of pain for the patient could be trouble in any of the above organs.
* Pig is a vertebrate and vertebrates are bilaterally symmetrical. Hence, to dissect a pig into two equal right and left halves, the incision will have to be made along the sagittal plane or median plane.
* Pleural membrane surrounds the lungs and acts as a protective cover. The space between the lungs and the pleural membrane is called the fluid cavity and is filled with a fluid called pleural fluid.
So, the pleural membrane and the lungs are affected by the rupture.
Pleural fluid is draining into the patient's thoracic cavity. As the fluid will drain out, air will accumulate in the pleural cavity and might affect the normal functioning of the lung. This condition is called 'pneumothorax' or 'collapsed lung'.
