if you change your diet to be rich in protein, explain how this change can affect the urea production in the short and long terms. (long and short term regulatory mechanisms)

Solutions

Expert Solution

High protein diets have been found to be beneficial on weight loss , body composition and certain blood lipide , in short term . Satiating effects of dietary protein , a reduced choice of foods and an aversion against dietary fat in the absence of carbohydrates have all been attributed to better weight loss with high protein diets .

However , long term high protein diets can lead to insulin resistance , high glucagon turn over , or may also increase the risk of cardiovascular disease . More clinical evidences are required before high protein diet be introduced as a tool in the nutritional management of diabetes .

Urea is the largest circulating pool of nitrogen , excluding nitrogen in circulating protein and its production changes in parallel to the degradation of dietary and endogenous proteins . In addition to serving as a way to excrete nitrogen , urea transport , mediated through specific urea transport proteins , mediates a central role in the urine concentrating mchanism . Renal ammonia excretion , although often considered only in the context of acid base homeostasis . The covers aspects of protein metabolism and the control of the two major molecules involved in renal nitrogen excretion , urea and ammonia . Both urea an ammonia transport can be altered by glucocorticoids and hypokalemia, two condition that also effect protein metabolism .

The Okinawan diet can be described as a low-energy, nutrient-rich, high-carbohydrate diet that may be beneficial for reducing the risk of many chronic diseases. The Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Range (AMDR) for carbohydrate is 45% to 65% of kcal. What percent of calories in this 1-day Okinawan diet menu come from carbohydrate? The amount of total carbs is 342.6 and the amount of total calories is 1790.5. (I wasn't provided with the amount of calories per gram of carbohydrate.)
