Ques 5 -
a) Depressant - Alcohal is one depressant which is most widely used in the world. When alcohal (Bear, Whiskey, Rum, Brandy, Wine) is cosumed orally, it leads to the slow down of the central nervous system of the body. It creates a sense of slowness in all parts of the body and the person feel relaxed. If often decreases heart rate, respiratory rate and gastrointestinal systems.
b) Stimulant - Caffeine is the most widely used stimulant in the world. Just opposite of depressant, when caffeine is taken orally (Coffee), it stimulates the functioning of our central nervous system of the person and creates a sense of supercharge and the person feels energetic and focused. If often increases heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
c) Narcotic - Hydrocodone are the most prescribed and abused narcotic drug in the world. They mostly comes in the form of tablet or oral solution. People misuse them by overdosing, smoking, snorting and even injecting it into the body. It intracts with the opioid receptors of the body and provides the user with a perception of relief. Overuse of hydrocodone can lead to muscle weakness and difficulty in proper breathing.
d) Hallucinogen - LSD (LySergic acid Diethylamide) can be considered as the most widely used Hallucinogenic agent in the world. It stimulates serotonin receptors in the brain and increases serotonin production. Serotonin receptors are responsible for our visualisation and interpretation of the world. By altering it, the hallucinogenic agent changes our thinking process, emotional responses and perseption about things which is often described as hallucination.
e) Inhalant - Gasoline can be considered as the most widely used inhalant in the world. Addicts uses its vapor by breathing from an open container of solvents. It significantely reduces the function of central nervous system and the person feel high. Gasoline is a very toxic substance and contains 150 different types of chemicals. Overusing it can lead to damage organ or even death.
f) Steroids - Anabolic steroids can be considered as one of the most widely abused steroid in the world. These are nothing but synthetic version of testosterone (male sex hormone). They can be taken orally or applied on the skin or can be injected. They are responsible for producing more protein inside the muscles which help in gaining muscle mass, strength and body fuel. Overuse of anabolic steroids can lead to liver damage, kidney failure, high cholesterol level and increased chances of heart failure.
