Ethics in Business and Accounting Question
Do you think the government should take more responsibility and come up with more imposed regulation in favor of labor unions?
Labor unions are organization or association of workers that represent collective interest of employees. It helps to unite workers to negotiate with employers regarding wages, working hours and working conditions. I think the government should take responsibility and provide their support to the labour unions. This is because although the labour unions exert their power , but if given the official authority , they could fight more for their rights . They alone cannot fight for everything and get everything they deserve. Despite of presence of these associations, there numerous number of workers working at even lower than basic level of income. The working conditions are bad. This adds to additional medical expenses . There are workers who go into potholes for cleaning, no precautions for their health and safety are taken and the income is also very low. The government could provide support to the unions who are figthing for such workers. Though labour laws are in existence, more strictness is required in implementation of the same. Proper and cheap procedure should be there to file the complaint easily . Campaigns should be help by government to make the labourers aware of their rights and powers. A minimum pay should be included in the law for workers so that , at least they are able to earn for their basic requirement after whole day of work. Guidelines should be issued to be followed by company for health of the workers.
The labour unions are ready to fight for themselves but some.power by the government to them is needed as the employers are more powerful and at a privileged position. At the end of the day the workers need money, so they have to bow down , given no support is there.
