1. Do you think there should be a tax on hygiene products (you may consider all products for both men and women)
2. If these products are necessities, why would the government tax them?
According to your question 1, I would like to say No, there should be no tax for hygienic products as these are not luxurious items but a basic necessity that should be fulfilled at any cost.
There are reasons for my arguments as given below -
Health purpose -There are women and men, who belong to poor backgrounds, less income or even unemployed. For them, it is a big deal to even think of hygienic products such as sanitary napkins and condoms. As a result of which women use clothes in place of sanitary napkins which leads to infection and diseases and hence deteriorate their health conditions.
Hindrance in economic growth -
On the other hand, people skip using contraceptives such as condoms which eventually increases the population growth and leads to create hindrance in economic growth to the entire country.
Seems unfair -As I said earlier that sanitary napkins and other hygienic products are not a luxury item but a basic necessity that should be fulfilled to prevent health dangers.Monthly periods are natural as women don't want to menstruate .In this society women are already being targeted for so many reasons and then shocking them with one more thing as tax is like govt itself is being so unfair to them. It seems like" women" are being penalized for "being women".
So taking care of the poor society in our country, hygienic products should be 100% tax free for leading a prosperous economy as well as welfare one.
Answer 2.Well earlier govt executed taxes for hygienic products such as sanitary napkins with a tax of 12% there began a kind of revolution to revoke all the taxes as these items are necessary for many reasons. As a result of which now these are tax free. So it is a necessity and that's why it's tax free now.
