Every aspect of the environment will generally affect a person with a form of dementia. It will affect how they feel, how they act, their skills and their communication. Outline how you could support a person with dementia by managing the following three environments:

a)The Physical Environment

b)The Social Environment

c)The Emotional Environment

Dementia is a general term for loss of memory , language, problem solving and other thinking abilities that are severly interfear daily life.

  • Disoriantation in time and space

  • misplacing things
  • changes in mood and behaviour
  • delaying in personal hygine and daily routine including eating

The three environmental factors could support the patient with dementia are The physical enviornment, The social enviornment, The emotional enviornment.

a)The Physical Environment

dementia patient have loss of memory. so they forget things where they lived and no orientation of surrondings . It is important to make the patient safty . Always keep the bathrom dry inorder to avoid falls. Never leave the patient alone. Uniqueness in common rooms, short corridors alm surroundings and few decision points eased orientation.It is important to keep toilet or bathroom a safe and easy place for a person with dementia to use. A unique and simple design can help the person with dementia to maintain their independance and dignity over personal care. Adaptations in the physical enviornment can lead to positive effects on activities of daily life , behaviour, and quality of life. Effective lightening of rooms, with increased light levels, good contrast , minimising glare , avoidind sudden changes in light levels and good colour definition. Quality lighting is a vital componant of good dementia friendly design.

b)The Social Environment

The social enviornment is more important to keep the patient's social well being. As you know dementia patient forget thing easily, so please him to recollect his memory,. If any friends or family members come to visit him try to provide adequate information to the patient and ask the visitor to interact the patient as much as they can. Support the patient , respect and understand him . In a dementia fiendly soceity people will aware of and understand dementia, so that people with dementia can continue live in the way they want to and in the community they choose. Encourage demetia people to do some social activities like cooking together, cleaning his room, Do arts and crfts , reading if possible,encourage to organize his room.etc.

The Emotional Environment

People with dementia always experience changes in their emotional responses. They may have less control over their feelings and how they express them Eg. Someone may be irritable or prone to rapid mood changes or overreacting to things. They may also appear unusually uninteresed in things or distant. Keep a calm enviorment for them. Loud noices may leeds to irritable mood or sorrow mood. Provide an emotional safty. Always consider emotional safty as primary psychologycal need. heip him to reduce anxiety and agitation . Give emotional support to support a positive self image. Remain calm and unhurried, particularly if the patient is experiencing a combative , agitated state known as catastrophic reaction ( overeaction to excess stimulation ). Use easy to understand sentences to convy message.
