Background

Breastfeeding is the best method to nutrite the children and the rate of increase of breast feeding decreased in Ghana. The study is to estimate the rate of socio-economic and demographic determinantsof 6 months, exclucive breast feeding of two rural districts of Southern Ghana.

Problem statement

The breast feeding help to reduce the child morbidity and mortality, it improves immunity and quality of life. Breast feeding also helps to reduce the chance of breast and ovarian cancer, diabetes and increase birth spacing.

In 2017, Ghana, the death rate of children under 5 was 52 among 1000 birth. The neonatal death rate of the same period was 25 per 1000 birth. In this situatuion, children in Ghana, 1 of 19 will not survive their age 5.

The major reason for this is the rate of breast feeding has been decreased b the rate of 17%.

Relevance

The death of Ghana has been increased and the rate of breast feeding was decreased to 52%.

Methodology

The study is conducted in the Shai-Osudoku and Ningo-Prampram districts of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. All the mother in this two districts having children with 6 months is included in this study. The rate of employed is 72%.

  • Most of the respondents likes to do breast feeding and others opted for formula feeding.
  • Some of the respondens are awsre of the issues of breast feeding and others are not. Those who are aware means they are able to say in detail about the nutritional value of the breast milk and express that they have some knowledge about the breast feeding.
  • Many of the responders are aware about the benefits of the breast feeding, that it keeps the child healthy and safe, gives high immune power, keeps away from diseases.
  • At the same time, there are different ideas about formula feeding. Some are expressing strong reservation with the useage of formula feeding, because they bekive that formula is not at all safe, that it is packed in the container. Somebody think that, formula is full of chemical, that it will harm the children.
