SCRUB TYPHUS

The bacteria called Orientia tsutsugamushi is the main causative factor for scrub typhus. The disease occurs when chigger bites,a small insect bites someone. It spreads by bacteria causing arthropods. when medical intervention is not given, death occurs in 50 per cent of the people.

The main signs and symptoms are

• Red spots/rashes on the body
• Severe headache
• Hypotension
• fever
• severe bodyache
• confusion.
• stupor

The complications include organ damage and death. It can be prevented by using mosquito repellents with 20 to 30 percent DEET.
