You are designing a residential solar power system and live in the typical home that uses an average of 900 KWH of electrical energy per month. You have heard that a Clearwater Power solar power test in Idaho found that a 1 KW solar array produced 1240 KWH in a year.
a) What size solar array rated in KW would generate your annual electrical usage?
b) The solar irradiance is 1 KW/m2 and you buy solar panels that are 19% efficient. How many square meters of your roof will the solar panels cover?
c) A current rule of thumb is that the full solar installation costs approximately $1.75 per watt after accounting for tax incentives. How much does your solar system cost to install?
d) You pay 10 cents per KWH of energy that you use. How much of
your investment do you recover each year in lower utility bills and
how many years until your solar power system has paid for
itself?
The concept used in this question is electrical energy consumption , i just solve this problem as per the available information easily and finally i deduced the values asked in the different parts of the question.
