People who plant flowers in their front yard provide a public good. Why don't we subsidize people to plant more flowers?

Solutions

Expert Solution

That is a great idea. We can subsifize plants so that they become cheaper for people to buy. This will encourage afforestation and help revive our ecosystem. Plants that are planted in front of houses may seem a private property as the house owner takes care of those but its effects are public property. If a tree is planted in front of my house, its oxygen is for all. Hence we should encourage this practice and ask government to subzidise plants.
