Cholera is pathogenic bacteria born disease. This disease is caused by the bacteria that is know as

Vibrio cholera. Generally this disease is caused by the consumption of contaminated food or water.

There are some common causative agents that leads to cholera:

  • Open defecation or defecation at the nearby area of municipal water source
  • Municipal water supplies source is comes in contact with sewage.
  • Ice made from municipal water or sewage contaminated plant
  • Foods and drinks sold by street vendors that contain contaminated source.
  • Vegetables grown or partially cooked with human waste water
  • Raw or semi-cooked or undercooked foods and fish seafood propagate in sewage waters or polluted water.

Vibrio cholera organism rapidly grown in the intestinal environment and produce toxin that leads to diarrhea, vomiting and this lead to severe dehydration. If this condition is not treated well than it leads to death.

Generally cholera or sewage mediated infection leads to below mentioned symptoms

  1. Muscle cramps.
  2. Abdominal pain
  3. Diarrhea
  4. Dehydration
  5. Skin loose elasticity
  6. Low blood pressure
  7. Thirst
  8. Dry mucous in mouth, nose and throat

These are the common manifestations of cholera.
