A thoracic aortic aneurysm is the abnormal widening or ballooning of a portion of this artery due to weakness in the wall of the blood vessel.
Thoracic aortic aneurysm risk factors include:
· Age. Thoracic aortic aneurysms occur most often in people age 65 and older.
· Tobacco use increase the risk
· High blood pressure
· atherosclerosis or the buildup of plaques
· Family history i.e. the genetic predisposition
· Marfan syndrome and related disorders
· Bicuspid aortic valve.
The treatment, of the thoracic aortic aneurysm, involves the CONVENTIONAL SURGERY, a procedure called open thoracic aortic aneurysm repair.
