Diversity Does the growing diversity in the United States pose special challenges for law enforcement and criminal justice professionals? If so, what are these challenges and what are some of your thoughts on possible solutions? What steps can be taken by individuals, CJ professionals, and by entire communities to undertake stronger human relationships and knowledge of race, gender, culture, religion, bias, stereotypes, and sexual orientation?
I do feel that diversity brings along so many thoughts, actions and ideas about the way people think about decisions in life. Not only does it plea for a change but also the fact how varied out thought processes, ideas and aspirations would be in many aspects. Now this diversity can impact the current law enforcement system we have to a huge extent due to varied conflicts. But 'only through understanding people's needs, expectations and jears can compatibility between police and society be achieved'.We need to enlist the challenges in the society today, the various cultures that prevail and how to deal with them keeping the law and order intact in all the directions. The officials need to become more cognizant of background differences and cultural sensitivity. They need to use more transactional model communication and active listening. This will ensure them to follow a good pace with the changing times.
