Rio+20 was held in 2012 in Rio De Janeiro Brazil. It was the largest & biggest event in the history of UN. It emphasized on political commitment to sustainable development.

The main 2 themes were

1) green economy in context of sustainable development & poverty eradication

2) institutional framework for sustainable development

It focused on gender equality, Land Degradation Neutral World, building sustainable cities & urban settlement , assessing strength of risk assessment tools to reduce disasters.

It laid too much emphasis on sustainable development of oceans & suggested ways to achieve it

1) Significant reduction in marine debris by 2025

2)Restoring health and productivity of marine system , maintain biodiversity, enabling their conservation & sustainable use for present & future generations.

3) Eliminate illegal fishing & killing of other Marnie life.Food & agriculture ministry will be responsible for ensuring this.

4)Take action in marine protected area, eliminate fisheries subsidies take steps to combact marine pollution.
