The largest benefit to a computer network is the ability to share information. Threats to health care networks are becoming prominently prevalent. You are working as a nurse educator in a large hospital system. Nurse educators have been centralized however; are required to travel to the organizations regional facilities. Educators use their smartphones and i-Pads to interact and share data and information. What are the first steps you would take to secure these exchanges? Describe why each step is important. Consider confidentiality of the information, how it could possibly be breached, and what specific measures can be taken to identify and prevent breaches.
Steps to secure exchanges and prevent breaches
1) Protect the network- This can be done by investing in good antivirus softwares, and segregating network to prevent leak of all the data throughout organisation.
2) Educate staff members- Various training for staff members should be organised.
3) Encrypt portable devices- strict rules to carry data only on encrypted devices.
4) Physical security- By use of cable locks, care of the devices with information to prevent mishandling.
5) Secure wireless networks- password should be changed frequently
6) Formulate mobile data policy- Limiting the type of data which can be stored on gadgets.
7) Delete unnecessary data- Information no longer needed should be deleted immediately.
8) Vet security of cloud computing vendors
9) Patch electronic medical devices
10) Develop data breach response plan- For prompt action and prevent all the information getring breached.
