1. why do you perform each type of injection it?(intradermal subcutaneous, intramuscular)
2. what areas on the patient could you perform it?
Answer 1) Intradermal- intradermal injections are given for diagnostic purposes mainly such tuberculosis, allergy and also for some vaccines. Medicine is absorbed slowly due to limited blood supply of skin.
Subcutaneous- Subcutaneous injections are given in fat layer below skin due to fewer blood vessels than muscles medication is absorbed slowly and action is prolonged.
Intramuscular- An intamuscular injection is given to deliver medication deep into the muscles. This allows medication to be absorbed quickly into the blood stream as the blood supply of muscles are good.
Answer 2) Sites-
Intadermal-Anterior aspect of forearm, Upper back, Upper chest.
Subcutaneous-the upper outer area of the arm, the front and outer sides of thigh, the abdomen except for a 2 inch area around the navel, the upper outer area of buttocks, the upper hip.
Intramuscular-Deltoid muscle of the arm, Vastas lateralis of the thigh, Ventrogluteal muscle of the hip, Dorsogluteal muscle of the buttocks.
