Endoscopy:-

It is a procedure to examine a person's digestive tract including the interiors of any hollow organ as in non surgical way. In this technique, a soft flexible tube called endoscope which ahs a camera attached to it, is used to monitor the issues.

A) Indicating symptoms -

Endoscopy is preferred after checking some symptoms like : 1. Severe abdominal pains

2. Fever

3. Chest pain

4. Difficulty in swallowing

5. Shortness of breath.

B) Nursing intervention-

1. Prepare the patient mentally by explaining the method of treatment and advising to be accompanied by someone who will take that patient back to home after the procedure.

2. Preparations and administration of sedatives to the patient and taking complete visualisation of the stomach before procedure. Also removing the dentures, if the patient wears them, so as to avoid any kind of injury.

3. Post interventions include taking care of the patient's sedatives effect, instructing them to resume their diet and activities by monitoring their body temperature and vital signs regularly.

C) Potential complications-

1. Majorly it can cause meningitis or blindness or decreased vision,orbital hematoma.

2. Hyposomia, intercranial hemorrhage, etc.

3. Headaches, facial pains, pain in veins, dental pains, etc.

D) Outcome/Evaluation-

1.The endoscope has a small camera on its end, which is connected to a computer. It's video is recorded to be watched over again if needed without disturbing the patient.

2. Patient's evaluation is also done after the procedure to note if anything goes wrong with patient's system later on.

3. Evaluation of the results is also made to treat the problem for which endoscopy was done.

E) Pt education-

1. Patient should stop taking medicines like aspirin, or any other blood thinners few days prior to the procedure.

2. Patient should not eat or drink few hours before the procedure.

3. Doctor's instruction of pre and post procedure should be considered well by the patient.
