Every year many government programs started well intended. Health is a primary issue in almost every country. Every country set up some goals for future but how much they got success at grassroot level is main point. Healthy People is also a federal government's initiative for building America a healthy nation. There are some objectives formed like to attain quality health, longer and disease free, injury free, disability free life to identify health related threats and measure to eradicate these threat as well as achieve equity and eliminate disparities in different ethnicities and societies. Healthy People program is run by the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services with the stated goals of “increasing the quality and years of healthy life,” and “eliminating health disparities.” In order to do so, the program is set up to track things like obesity, tobacco and substance abuse, sexual activity, and other aspects of health. They’re also looking at how these things vary according to race, gender, education and more. But this approach looks like incomplete thought out, horribly ineffective at addressing the problems it is supposed to fix, and a waste of taxpayers money.
Go ask your neighbor what they know about the Healthy People program. The only people who really know anything about the program are the bureaucrats who run it and the health care administrators who have to deal with it. It kind of trickles down to the physicians and other providers, but we generally ignore it because we’re already trying to help accomplish these goals and we don’t need the government to tell us these things are important. The big fallout with programs like this is that they shift attention away from personal decisions and behaviors that affect health, focusing instead on what physicians and others are doing to try to help the problem. It’s easier to monitor and control the doctors than it is to actually focus on the patients and make them aware that they as individuals are responsible for their health.
Nearly 75% of country is overweight or obese. With that, we have atrociously high rates of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and so on. The government addresses this by having McDonald’s post their nutrition information on a website. Government is looking for economy and his money instead of achieving health targets. By thousands of different actions that do nothing to emphasize the personal responsibility each person must take for their own health.
