New drugs undergo preclinical and clinical testing.   Explain how preclinical and clinical testing differ from each other and why preclinical testing is necessary

Solutions

Expert Solution

Clinical testing involves the usage of a drug on a human body to check for its efficacy, toxicity, dosage etc while preclinical testing involves testing the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, toxic levels of the drug in cell lines and animals and not humans.

Pe clinical testing is important for iterative testing, feasibility, in silico interactions and are important to check for the safety dose for clinical trials on humans. After preclinical testing clinical testings are done related to pharmacokinetics, safety, toxicity, side effects in different phases of the clinical trials by increasing the number of participants in the trial at every phase.

Makers of generic drugs must show that they do not differ significantly from “reference” drugs that they imitate. One aspect in which drugs might differ is their extent of their absorption in the blood. Data were collected from two groups of subjects, one used generic drug and the other group used reference drug. The average absorption extent for Reference drug that applied to N1=78 subjects was X ?1 = 2065 with the standard deviation of S1= 881.8. The average absorption...

Makers of generic drugs must show that they do not differ significantly from the "reference" drugs that they imitate. One aspect in which drugs might differ is their extent of absorption in the blood. The table gives data taken from 20 healthy nonsmoking male subjects for one pair of drugs. This is a matched pairs design. Numbers 1 to 20 were assigned at random to the subjects. Subjects 1 to 10 received the generic drug first, and Subjects 11 to...
