Psychologist Lawrence Kohlberg argued that individuals develop a sense of right and wrong in stages. Review the chart of Kohlberg’s stages of moral development in the class lecture this week. At what stage would you place yourself?
Ans: Lawrence Kohlberg, this theory made us understand that morality starts from the early childhood years and can be affected by several factors. The framework of Kohlberg's theory consists of six stages arranged sequentially in successive tiers of complexity. He organized his six stages into three general levels of moral development. The six stages of moral development are grouped into three levels of morality: pre-conventional, conventional, and post-conventional morality.
On the Kohlberg's stages of moral development, I think I am on the stage 4 that is law and order orientation. This stage includes respecting the authorities and following the rules, as well as doing a person’s duty. The society is the main consideration of a person at this stage. For instance, a policeman refuses the money offered to him under the table and arrests the offender because he believes this is his duty as an officer of peace and order.
