what is three gospels? What does it mean to you that we have "side by side" stories?Does that mean we have conflicting stories? Complementary stories? give an example
Reynolds Price is the well known biblical scholar and a prolific man of letters. In his Three Gospels, he concentrates on the fourfold account of the life of Jesus of Nazareth, an observant Jew who taught, healed, and died obscurely in a small province of the Roman empire during the reigns of Augustus and Tiberius Caesar. In his version of the gospel, the author uses Mark's chronology and metaphoric details to portray Jesus as the Son of God and a person who is aware of His mission of blood redemption. Each section demonstrates Price's enthusiasm for the life of Jesus, the cognizance developed from his long study of the scriptures and some of the challenges he faced in bringing these ancient texts to life for the modern readers.
The first two gospel is the new translation of the Gospels according to Mark and John but the third one is his own version of the life of Jesus Christ. The four lengthy introductory essays narrate his purpose and methods. His translations stand closely to the original Greek and he tried to avoid paraphrase. The third gospel is deliberately conservative.
A side by side story can either be conflicting or complementary. The supplemental or frame characters can tell a story to other characters.
Example of a frame story or side by side story:
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley:
The story is the records of the narration of Victor Frankenstein and who narrates the story of a cabin dwelling family he secretly observes.
