DSM is the diagnostic and the statistical manual of mental disorders, that acts as a reference manual for the psychiatrists for diagnosing of psychological disorders. The disorders in DSM IV are classified in a multi axial classification system, which means that diagnosis would be made on different dimensions or axes.
Labelling people is one of the worst consequences of a psychological diagnosis. Though people might be getting a proper diagnosis, but along with the diagnosis they also get labelled to be psychologically ill. In the society that we live, even today, adds negative attributes to a person being ill. These people are generally either referred to be as violent, as most psychological patients are considered to be as dangerous and violent. Moreover, there are constantly isolated as being dangerous and trouble makers. There are very few people who would extend their support in getting people out of their condition.
